Sony Enters The Android Honeycomb Tablet Race With S1 & S2 Models

Looks like Sony is reaching out for a piece of that Honeycomb Android Tablet pie with two newly announced models today at a press event in Tokyo. The first of the tablets is a 9.4inch S1 Media Tablet which has a curved top like a folded magazine and is powered by a Tegra 2 SoC as well as a customised “Quick & Smooth” UI with Swift web browser. Have a Sony TV? You can use the S1 as a remote thanks to integrated infrared (now that’s a first).

The second is a strange dual screened S2 which packs two 5.5inch 1024 x 480 displays, Tegra 2 SoC and the standard 2 cameras. While it looks rather unwieldily with the curved back, Engadget reports that it’s more svelte that we are led to believe. Sony has also come up with an custom book style UI to take advantage of the dual screen. Both the S1 and S2 are PlayStation certified and are WiFi, 3G and 4G compatible.

No word yet on price but Sony say they should be shipping globally in fall.
